This is the time of year when people start to put together their New Year's resolutions. I've never been a fan of them. Not that I'm against them. If they work for you, you should make them, do them, and try to reach them. But for me, they always seemed like promises that were rarely, if ever, met.
This year, we made New Year's goals. We asked ourselves: who do we want to be next
year? A pet owner? A published author? A health nut? And then we followed that up with a plan: what do I do to make that person happen? Your annual goals will likely stay the same until you reach and have to adjust them but the end of the year is a good time to review them and remind yourself of the path you have paved to them.
This year was the first time my seven-year-old made their own goals. They focused on two things: getting a pet and getting some consistency in their bedtime routine. We've already made some changes to the structure of the bedtime routine, now we just have to implement it. The pet will be a heavier lift since there are some lines that I've already drawn that they need to consider. Luckily, they are excited about giving it a try.
